hi everybody,
i hv maya 2009 installed on win 7
i hv done everything as per famouswolf’s instructions,
bt still after resarting pc i’v to do all this keygen process
to load shave.
has anybody manage to overcome this problem

Hi guys, not sure who is still experiencing the win7 licence problem, but here is a solution I found while googling. Hope it helps:

1. You must enter the path in maya.env

MAYA_SCRIPT_PATH = C:\Program Files\JoeAlter\shaveHaircut\maya2009\scripts
MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH = C:\Program Files\JoeAlter\shaveHaircut\maya2009\plug-ins

2. delete C: key.txt

3.Start maya, load plugin and use keygen

4. Restart maya plugin loaded^^

NOTE to all: maya.env is located here…

(Windows)
C:\Users\[username]\My Documents\maya\[version]
or
C:\Users\[username]\My Documents\maya

how to salve problem
if you get Error: initializePlugin function failed (shaveNode)
all you need to do is open the script editor which is right next to where the error shows find the sarial key and then load the keygen and type in the 11 charactors of the keygen then push enter and reload maya.
no more Error: initializePlugin function failed (shaveNode)
now enjoy D#$& it

thanks so much! everything was fine but when I entered the 11 digits in my keygen, it still wasn’t working. But running the keygen as administrator did the trick! Thanks again!

Hi guys, i’m trying to get this to work in Mac OS X 10.5. However when I load the shaveNode.bundle in the Plug-in Manager, I couldn’t find any numbers in the Script Editor. All I get was this error messages in the Script Editor:
// Error: Unable to dynamically load : /Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2009/plug-ins/shaveNode.bundle
dlopen(/Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2009/plug-ins/shaveNode.bundle, 1): Library not loaded: @executable_path/libShave.dylib

Anybody has a solution to this? Pls help.

Hi I manage to install the shave on my comp but I notice 1 thing. When the plug-in is loaded, I have the “Shave Select” bar and the “Shave” shelf but I can’t find my “Shave” on my tool bar…Can anyone explain it to me??

I lost you on the first step here. Install the MPKG file.. When i download the file it comes up as Joe_Alters_Shave_Haircut_5.1_For_Maya.rar . If I try to open it it opens directly in Maya and it just says could not identify file. I have no idea how to install this file. Please help

Happy news for OSX users…
Here is the step for installation
1. install the MPKG file..
2. go to plug in manager in maya…try to load..you will get an error
3. go to script editor, there will be a number to send JOe (software creator)
copy the first 11 digits.
4 come to windows machine > keygen crack> type the 11 digit you got from the script editor> execute it.
5. licence file is created now in C > copy that file and save to:
users/Shared/
users/Shared/Shave (I created this directory manually, since it didn’t existed)
users/Shared/JoeAlter
users/Shared/JoeAlter/shaveHaircut
6. open maya > load plug in…..Done

im installed !! i saw the serie number changed (i guess this number change every u close ur maya software) i will try with this new number serie of the script editer.
i used the adminstrador too… and not copy paste the number..(11 firsts numbers) i wrote..

I am also having this problem with Windows 7 (64) and shave and haircut!
I can get it working but then as soon as i restart it all goes to hell.

im having the same windows 7 problem, after the computer restarts the license created is no longer valid! we have to find a solution for this

wolf57: if you have renderman for maya, it can not render shave hair, only a renderman studio installation can.

anyone get it working on maya 2008 X32??? (windows 7)
every time I install it it says :
ERROR ::“shaveNode” was compiled against a newer version of the Maya API::
so anyone with the same problem or I’m doing anything wrong???

Ok I got it working, however I have a new issue. Renderman will not render the hair. Mayasoftware will render it fine though. Any suggestions on this?

I’m trying to get this working under 10.5 OSX… I cant even generate the 11 digit code because I get the error that I need libShave.dylib
Type “shaveDiag” in a shell to get a diagnostic as to why Shave wont load.

Specifically, it says “There is no ‘libShave.dylib’ file in MAYA_LOCATION/MacOS”
That directory would be /Applications/Maya.app/Conents/MacOS

If anyone on OSX that has it working, could you see if you’ve got a libShave.dylib file in there, or anywhere else? I’m stumped.

1) I am having some issues with making Shave work properly for Maya 2009 32Bit. I ‘ve installed it and its working but at the same time it crashes a lot when tiying to put hair on polyogn sculps. I am creating some characters for a 3 minute short and i would like to use this Plug-In to create realistic hair… it looks cool but at the same time has a lot of bugs… When you said its working fine did u do anything else other that whats descibed in this forum? Did you download the trial version and cracked it with this keygen? I did download the trial verison from JoeAlter’s site and it was still having issues…
2) Also when i restart my machine i have to crack the serial again to be able to load the Plug-In from the Plug-In Manager.

Hi man,

Regretably no it doesn’t, I realized that after starting my comp up this morning, to be honest it was a problem I didn’t think I’d encounter so I didn’t think to do a restart last night. I’ll keep trying though, and I’ll post if I figure it out mate. Until then we will have to keep making a new key.txt every time we boot haha. Gimme a shout if u make any progress.

*** For anyone who fails to get shave to load or the keygen to generate a key***

I installed it like this, on Windows 7!

1. Install Shave And A Haircut.

2. Launch Maya, open the plugins manager and load shaveNode.mll
It will give you an error in the command responce. Open the Script Editor and copy the first 11 digits of the number.

3. Copy the Keygen provided to C:\ (so it would be c:\keygen.exe)
Be sure to do this.

4. ***IMPORTANT*** Open the keygen from this location as ADMINISTRATOR by right clicking

(it failed on me many times before I discovered this on a forum)

Enter the first 11 characters of your serial number (including the “-” if there’s one).
Press enter and your keyfile will be saved in C:\key.txt (just leave it here).

5. Go back to Maya Plug-In Manager, load and enjoy!

(Also the first time I did this it failed to install and actually generated a new code in the error message left in the script editor, I used the first 11 digits of this new code, repeated step 4. and it worked
a treat second time round!)

The point is that I´m trying to run after shave and haircut for Maya 2009 under Windows 7 and this OS doesn´t allow access to C:, thus the keygen can´t create the key.txt file. I´ve tried to change users privileges but it still doesn´t work. Please, can someone paste here the content of this key file so I can manually create it, or tell me where I could download a sample file? Thanks very much for your help.

I got 2010 shave working fine, I installed the 2010 shave version from joealter.com and it used the same key.txt that 2009 used.

Alright I desperatly need help on this. I read this entire forum and I have a problem that is not even mentioned here. Let me start off by saying everything I have tried thus far… I set full assess to my administrator. Oh yeah Im running a 32 bit Vista. k I tried the User/shared/joealter folder trick… I then tried creating my own key.txt in the C drive section under documents…. I also tried drag and dropping the keygen onto the command promt… I then tried right clicking the keygen and run as the administrator. None of this has worked! Now here is the wierd thing. I get the same error as mostly eveyone but I get a completly different thing in the script editor. After applying the method of “Nilish” I thought it would work but I was wrong again. So this is what I am getting.
I open the plug in manager and I load the shavenode.mll file. I get the usual error. “// Error: initializePlugin function failed (shaveNode)……
Now In then open the script editor and it reads……
“// Error: There is a mismatch between the Shave plugin, which is for version 5.0v61 of Shave, and the Shave scripts, which are for version 5.0v23 of Shave. // // Error: initializePlugin function failed (shaveNode) //. And by the way I installed the 32 bit 2009 version. If anyone has gotten this problem and know how to resolve it please let me know ASAP. I just need the serial to come up but nothing. Anyway, I really appreciate it, I worked with Maya hair in the past and its ass when it comes to rendering. hate the whole hair composting deal and I really want to mainstream my work with shave and haircut. i’m using maya 2009 on mac osx and i followed the instructions, and even followed what bonsaid and mrdoe said about creating folders to put the key.txt file, but every time i load the plug in, it’s still saying error: initializeplugin function failed (shaveNode)… anyone know what i’m doing wrong/not doing?
