Mari was developed by a New Zealand company Weta Digital, which was used in such films as the District 9, The Lovely Bones and Avatar. Mari is intended only for texturing 3D-models. From analogues (Zbrush, Mudbox, Blender, 3d-coat) is different for up to several thousands of large textures (32k to 32k pixels) on the model, greater speed of working with large textures, greater opportunities for visualization, flexible engine, brushes, animation support, and the ability to create animated textures.

this app requires a very limited set of SUPER HOT nvidia graphics cards to work. Check out the foundry site and be advised that experience for me and from groups on other boards indicate this is a completely UNUSABLE app without the right hardware… It is for professional – really professional – use only. Not for dabblers.

I’ve tested this before on an 8800 gtx, it worked but was pretty sluggish.

And yes mari currently have issues with lots of graphic cards, also it needs Open GL V2.1 compatible cards which the 8800 GTX doesn’t support.
It didn’t work fine on my Quadro 1800 graphic card!

hey it is an advanced tool that came out from weta digital producction pipeline and as you may know Weta is one of the biggest FX houses in the market so it is not rare that it needs a high end graphics card.
