  1. does it look like v10!? if so I’ll take blender all day thanks!

  2. ^ Yes it has some additions but it’s workflow is still awkwardly outdated. You should stay with Blender which seems to be developing pretty fast.

    • I use Maya and Softimage but my third choice would be Blender…no joke ! How people have stuck with LW is beyond me when you consider how LW users have been treated, broken promise after broken promise…great render engine alone doesn’t balance it for me !

      • Going from Maya and Softimage to Lightwave for a week showed be what a hell it is to work with Lightwave. Never Again.

    • Yes it does. And blender’s renderer is still no competition to Lightwave’s.

      • yes, blender can use vray… :D
I prefer maya, Lightwave just for modelling

  3. Lightwave modeller = a polished turd. Here’s an idea newtek Just sell lightwave layout for half the price and make a a goZ like plugin for the likes of modo, blender, etc.

    • I take it you don’t use Lightwave that much. I use several tools, all of which have their strengths and drawbacks. Maya,etc.. are definitely among them.

  4. People are ignorant.
LW is being used in many productions as a part of the pipeline
and by tons of smaller studios or freelancers as their entire
    pipeline.
Of course if a need a tool i will use what is best for the project
For fast and dirty jobs with tight deadlines not many apps
can beat LW and a good LW generalist.

ps.At the studio (with 12 other artists) we use LW,Maya,C4D,Modo,Houdini
believe me … it is a life saver…
    Fprime,VPR,Endomorphs,NO weighting for rigs…

of course for motion graphic hype shit we use C4d,and Houdini for more complex character setups Maya…
in the end MDD export and LW…

    • Of Course it is used widely. Version 10 was the best selling Lightwave release ever and v11 will probably break that record.

  5. If you don’t like the wares then why bother to snide up the post or are u flame boys working for AutoNAziDesk?
Thank you for 11 & up your VPR’s!

  6. No offence mate, but 3dsmax is shit too. Maya is ok, but the real deal is Softimage.

    • spot on crackhead, Softimage is the standard bearer, not sure the rest would agree but having been in the 3D for over 18 years, tried um all to a general standard and Softimage never let’s me down. Btw by about version 701 or 702 lol, Modo will be up there if Brad and co can employ more testers and keep improving/adding to a steadily growing monster !

      • I was doing an architectural previsulaization in softimage for 2 weeks, finally I deleted the whole project and did it again in 4 hours, just because of the difference in rendering times. Softimage’s renderer is a true time killer monster, ofcourse better than maya, it’s real-time preview (which was the oldest one in the industry, I believe), is very very slow compared to modo’s (or even fprime) and doing test renders repeatedly is just the worst thing in all 3D packages other than modo (or lightwave + fprime). Even new features for viewport rendering in Maya and 3dsmax are not comparable to modo’s old features.

  7. you can do awesome thing with any software if you know actually what you are doing. the best software will be the one that you study

  8. Modo is the shit for modeling. NOTHING beats it. Moddler sucks. I was into Lightwave alot, but that was before i found out that if i wanted to get a job, it was all about Max, or Maya.

    • My Friend! Modo is more than just a great modelling tool. After 10 years of using LW, when modo was just in version 201, I turned to it and now I’m totally devoted to it. I have worked with Maya (since version 2), 3dsmax (since version 3), Softimage|XSI (since version 5), and I defenitely prefer modo. In our studio, modelling, texturing and rendering has been done in modo, and only animation has been left for motionbilder and maya, but with the release 601 of modo, things may dramatically change. Maya does a definitely bad job of animation caching and we have the trouble of bridging between maya and modo (through .mdd files) by the means of softimage and heavy scriting inside both maya (MEL) and modo(Python)
PS: what makes me eager to still follow LW, is its simpler compatibility with modo and my memories from old days…

  9. Just a sec – some guys here really think they can compare shitty Blender renderer with Lightware renderer? this is a joke, isn’t it? ha ha

  10. sorry boys and girls, thought that i give my old ‘flame’ another try – but sadly it is unistalled pretty much within the first hour, shame – but i think it is a bit too late and far too little… so now we (lightwave) try and do what cinema 4d and the rest have already mastered and with ease!… so for me it is – good by my love and hope we will meet again some day – to reminisce about the good old days!…

    • Sorry no, it without any doubt would have been a major breakthrough and a real upgrade of Lightwave. Modeler and Layout finally together(or not if that’s your preference), modular Tools with great potential towards external renderers and any kind of dynamic tool or animation solvers or plugin to import/export data via tcp too. Dynamic non destructible history. And with all the current cool features of LW like Nodes Engine,VPR, Virtual Camera and great modeling tools and plugins it would have been a great change to invert the latest tendencie for many to leave the package.

  11. Woω! This blоg lоoks јuѕt like my οld one!
It’s on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Wonderful choice of colors!
