    I personally like 3dsmax the most of all because it has great modelling abilities and particles that are way beyond maya.
    But softimage is really the way to go for particles, that is if you don’t want to use houdini which is a package that can deliver pretty much anything.
    Maya is really great for animation and fluids (max doesn’t even hav fluids).
    
    Good news is that from 2013 you can customize 3ds ALT centric control for navigation so you can navigate the same way through all the programs which is great :)
