Roster of Improvements for Open Beta v9.3.1 (Build 1276):
Layout
– Fixed Case 7704: Surface Editor resets selected surface.
– Fixed Case 7606: Crash On Image Loading, VIPER, and Node Editor.
– Fixed Case 7693: Directional Rays toggle NOT SAVED.
– Fixed Case 7411: Gizmos not reported when adding plugins or in Edit Plugins panel.
– Fixed Case 8115: Object Sequencer and Object List both appear as (none) after they’re applied.
– Fixed Case 7005: Node-based materials not picking up backdrop image.
– Fixed Case 7181: Corrected floating-point comparisons in keyframe dragging to use the – AlmostEqual() function in the equality part so dragging does not stop short of the boundaries.
– Fixed Cases 7452 and 7453: vmap handling slow when there are many (100+) vmaps. Use of endomorphs tends to create many vmaps.
– Tightened up the conditions under which accelerated viewport drawing is disabled due to deformation.
– Fixed Case 4675: Radiosity Panel Field selection order
– Fixed Case 8316: Flexible format crashes Layout.
– Fixed Case 7533: Volume stack error
– Fixed Case 7671: Volume Stack only allows for one (or very limited) Total Internal Reflection bounces
– Using CLAMP_TO_EDGE for drawing lens flares when available to avoid artifacts as suggested by nVidia
– Fixed Case 7475: Crashes when using Superjitterbug.
– Fixed Case 7079: Poor handling of objects + bones caused parent and goal references in exported version 3 scene files to be incorrect.
– Save and restore GL contexts as needed without assuming the contexts are from one of our own GUI panes, which is the case with FPrime.
– Resolved Case 6560: LW crashes when plugins query LW handles. SDK changes will allow plugins to get notification of texturing and image changes; plugins need to be changed to take advantage of this.
– Implemented option to blur backdrop GI. This can allow for smoother background when using quicker rendering settings.
– Fixed Case 8517: multiple UV maps break displacements.
– Fixed Case 8531: Frame number limits too low
– Changed the Save Image format options to provide choices with more digits. Was XXX, XXXX; now XXX, XXXX, XXXXX, XXXXXX
– Fixed issue with Surface Editor and Layout OpenGL
– Fixed Case 6701: Motion Mixer – Create Actor and Free Actor problems
– Fixed Case 7237: Any dialog spawned from the Graph Editor, doesn’t keep the focus on the GE
– Integrated the “Revert Scene” functionality so the menu option handling could be handled with a finer grain. (BB7407)
– Fixed Case 8844: Problem with entering extremely large end keyframe values.
– Fixed Case 8821: SaveSceneCopy is causing LightWave to think a modified scene is NOT
– Open beta report: textured displacement fails. Some plugins do not pass all 4 vertices for texture interpolation.
– Fixed Case 8974: vmaps got scrambled. A vmap array was not guaranteed to be sorted as expected. Added a sorting of the array.
– Fixed Case 4421: renaming a vmap did not reorder the vmap in the global list of vmaps (which is sorted by name), leaving it unfindable.
– Working on 4975: Motion Mixer losing Morph data. So far the crash problem has been removed.
– Cases 7520 and 7992: Scene editor and load from scene crashes LightWave.
Modeler
– Fixed Case 7920: “Edit Plugin” window crashes
– Fixed Case #8344 – GLSL does not draw lines in Modeler
– Merged Fixed Case #7167 – GLSL crash with texture
– Fixed Case #5072 – overlayed wireframe grid drawing problem, added a slight offset to the grid drawing in modes which need to use glPolygonOffset, to prevent geometry projecting to the view plane to be pushed behind the grid.
Layout and Modeler
– Fixed Case 7138: Object fails to load in either Layout or Modeler
– Corrected an issue where multiple open requesters could cause confusion concerning panel widgets.
– Menu config loading: Some menu configurations would crash upon startup.
Cameras
– Fixed an out of memory/crash/freeze problem that could happen when radiosity is used with the classic camera mode.
– Fixed Case 7484: Camera view background set to preview.
Renderer
– Fixed a crash in Layout when the user clicks in the drawing window too quickly after rendering.
– Fixed Case 7196: Using limited region (with borders) and image filters produce random noise and errors outside the region.
– Now saving alpha buffer when saving special buffers
– Integrated the “Blur Radiosity” button onto the Global Illumination tab of the Render Options, and added the setting to the saving/-loading code for scenes.
– Fixed Case 8409: HyperVoxels don’t render in build 1270
– Fixed Case 8133: Viper does not obey Global Light Intensity.
– Fixed Case 7146: Motion blur not working with edges/points.
Mac/Universal
– Changed ‘Enter Unlock Code’ to ‘Enter License Key’ in the MacOS Menubar.
– Fix for Japanese Text Input issue.
– Attempt to make sure certain user-paths exist for writing out to.
– Attempt to make sure temporary path exists before others use it. This fixes issue where .ls files would not add and being able to enter license codes in Layout menu.
– The makelicense.ls LScript now allows a user to enter a license key even if no dongle is attached. When no dongle is attached, it instructs the user to attach the dongle and restart Layout. This affects all platforms.
– command-w allowed to close frontmost window. In Modeler, there was a conflict of using command-w to close an object; so, this was resolved.
– command-` cycles open windows
– An AppleScript dictionary resource file added to the Modeler and Layout builds that documents what is available for scripting. This is a small file as it only describes the “Command” verb which is used to send a LW command to Layout or Modeler. The command is in the form of a character string. The following script is an example:
———-
tell application “Layout”
Command “AlertLevel 0”
Command “LoadScene /Users/guest/Documents/LWContent/Scenes/BigBottom.lws”
Command “GoToFrame 121”
Command “RenderFrame”
end tell
———-
So, pretty much anything that can go into the command history can be replicated in the script.
– All the system menus for Layout and Modeler function correctly. This includes the cut, copy, paste in Modeler. In previous versions something was improper about cutting or copying with the system menu choices, although the control-x, and control-c and GUI buttons worked fine.
Layout only:
– cut, copy, paste system menu item added; although, they only apply to text edit fields.
-In Finder, a .lws file can be double-clicked to open it in Layout.
A .lws file can be dragged onto the Layout main window to open it.
A .lws file can be dragged onto the Layout application icon in the dock to open it.
A .lws file being opened in any of these three methods will have a content directory guessed for it. This does not alter the ability Layout already has for trying to match up content paths as it does when opening a scene with a file requester. This guessing has been improved.
A .lwo file be dragged onto the Layout application icon in the dock to open it.
-A crash bug was fixed when an Apple Event would come in before Layout was completely started up (basically, trying to use a command context that was not yet initialized). This applies to other platforms as well but should have no side-effects; it is to make sure the command subsystem is initialized earlier in the application initialization process.
– There was a ghosted ‘Register LightWave’ system menu that was never implemented and has been removed to avoid confusion. This is not the license key entry option.
Modeler only:
-In Finder, a .lwo file can be double-clicked to open it in Modeler.
A file can be dragged onto the Modeler main window to open it as an object. The file extension does not need to be .lwo.
A .lwo file can be dragged onto the Modeler application icon in the dock to open it.
A .lwo file be dragged onto the Layout application icon in the dock to open it.
SDK/LScript
– Added command to toggle dithering on/off to allow plugin access to this feature.
– Added support for occlusion to the raytracemode SDK function.
– Corrected an issue concerning LScript listboxes (and also channel selection controls) that caused it to fail to correctly remove an item from the selection set when individual items were selectively removed. The ‘event’ callback continued to be provided the most recent selection set, not accurately reflecting the selection state of the control.
– Added master handler notifications for texture removal, image removal and image alterations ? allows for operation of interactive preview applications.
– Added notification LWEVNT_NOTIFY_TEXTURE_ALTERED for master handlers.
– Support LWEVNT_NOTIFY_TEXTURE_ALTERED and fix response to notification of surface change events.
– Updated LWSDK changes doc to include new master notification
– Make text lscript: use an open file dialog to specify a text file to import.
– Lscript: Initial values for state buttons were not being applied correctly when the control was created.
