In this series of lessons, we will model and texture a 3d building and integrate it into a photographic plate.
Architectural visualization is an invaluable tool for being able to see a building, often inside and out, before constructing it in real life. Seeing structures in 3d will often highlight issues that may not be apparent when looking at drawings and plans. We’ll start by building up the geometry of the two buildings from scratch, using many of Maya’s modeling tools. We’ll use deformers to create sweeping curves and we’ll use existing geometry to add detail like balconies and rails. With the modeling complete, Kyle will take you through the process of adding materials and textures to the geometry. You’ll also go through the necessary steps for adding appropriate lighting and setting up your renders. In the end, you’ll have a nice final render with your custom built 3d building sitting in a real location.

Thank you sir.
How can we use maya in architectural???? No real world scales available… how can we confirm the accuracy of dimensions? arch visualisation needs auuracy, though we import cad files, how can we model dimension based buidings in maya? could you prove dimensions in maya are correct? Digital tutors not only trying to make money by pulling maya to engineering, but also contaminating the purity of dimension based visualisation….. also we need additional softwares like cad to verify them or to use as reference..
plz stop this nonsense of using non-dimensional non-engineering modelling support for engineering……………………
WOW, you are way too funny! Absolutely clueless!! 1 Unit = 1 in or 1 cm or 1 kilometer, etc. You can set this up in Maya preferences. And model to scale no problem!
thanks a lot dear. i m big fan of digital tutors and cgpersia.
lol, u just don’t know how to handle maya.
Hey pokipoki, I suggest that think before you talk!!!! Get some proof for your stupid conspiracy theories…. And one more thing dumbass if someone has a problem with Maya used in arch. Vis use another software, don’t blame Maya or DT for it. DT is making money with these software but at the same time they do great job of creating the next gen CG artists. Not only DT everyone does that. It is their job. We are one’s who need to think before we speak.
Window –> Settings & Preferences –> Settings and look for the unit setup.
Besides the default unit setup is cm not generic like 3ds Max.. lol
now thats the dumbest thing i ever heard o you holy engineer you model the objects base on the units that you specified to them not the acutal existing thing just imagine you want model the earth !!!! base on the biggest and smallest objects on your scene you create thats why they call it MODEL and just who said that you cant set your unit in maya???i have no problem exporting my obj from maya to realflow to get the accurate result you have to adjust your scales.
the first thing engineer do is get enough information about something then they open their mouth.
you can everything make with maya
don’t u see ?
it’s called “pre Vusualization” not real world scale and dimension design!
Maya is for the visualization purposes ..If somebody gets better out of it.. so that is fine..
but as long as visualization is concerned.. I had no problem with May so far
by the way! thankx for the sharing Nobax :)
Rapidshare??
Do not put more links rapidshare?
maya is perfect for archviz.
Thanx alot, great post, I’m wondering if you project file with this?
hotfile and uploading are too slowly, please mirror on rapidshare…
Rapidshare links added……
Thanks NoBaX for another great post!!
Thanks NoBaX :) :)
sorry, is available the project file?
First of all THANX for that , it really rox :) .
Second thing, is that someone seems a bit nub saying that u have restrictions on maya for architectural things… I’m working on architectural office, and ofc 3dmax is like a built in for ur draws on Autocad…and ofc maya can do exactly the same! just needs a bit more work to get the final result.
Would b awesome to see people talk about wat they know and NOT about they just think they know.
greatz
thanks for the links, especially the torrent :)
thanks NoBaX !
This is amazing you add torrent too
If you could add mediafire link its gonna be awesome man
it gives us more downloading option due to our internet connections.
Thanks again
Keep working man
waiting for next great releases of you!
thankx, project file pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
“Project Files” link added to post……
great, thanx alotttttt for the project files
maya version?
What a lame tutorial, they steal your time to model some simple geometry for a building, no practicality whatsoever. What about teaching how to import cad files like dwg and make it from modeling to textured rendering with hdri and not finishing off with some lame ending telling me to do some texturing and hdri if you want.
bah digital tutors sucks even for beginners
Arch Viz in Maya… little more complicated way, but suit for walkthrough. But with the release of Max 2011, we can go for 5times more mesh count works, and with Quicksilver, 3d paint & a lot more Max defeats maya by 8:2 I ride max for Arch Viz!
Max 2011 > 90 out of 100
Maya 2011> 30 out of 100
Maya-Painful Shit for Arch works, harddd to edit, no reality with concepts…
Sketchup-Revit-Max Matchless Dynamites
And Maya….. Scrap for Arch… must improve loooootttt more….
Better *(l)uck next time!!!
wow the culture of this guys is so low, i cant believe that i wanted to study arch, right now i se that career is full of losers who can?t see that maya it`s a tool just like cad, 3D max or skech, this losers surely use a knife as a screwdriver.
if you don?t know how to use a tool bether shut up and don?t act like a fool, insulting everybodies work. >:(
pd: it?s: BETTER; i know i’m still learning the english language =P
OUTSTANDING! tutorial, Thanks very much :)
LOL 3ds max fanboys… You are acting like angry monkeys, just be calm or get your sorry ass out of here please :)
Great tutorial, thank you .
This is silly and interesting….as from some of the above comments. Yes maya 2011 yet to get mature. Dont compare it with max2011 max is not for what maya is known for. But take it positively as maya do can provide things for ach viz as it can be seen from DT s effort on maya2010. maya2011 with service pack or maya2012 will be powerful. and so as max releases too. But the fact is max is max it not to replace maya. but maya hummggg seems to be catching up things right way…those who are watching development cycle of maya would know what i am talking…. Interesting ui,interoperabilitiy with other pipeline products etc.
I learned my craft in max first then move on to maya and never need to look back for major loads of work. they are both great tools but me biased on maya as i have yet to find something in professional world i cant do it with ease in maya.
Can someone seed the torrent or upload it to mediafire ? I’m not able to download ‘cuz of different restrictions by each site. MediaFire doesn’t have any restrictions on it and it’s free!
