In this 3ds Max tutorial we will learn techniques for rigging quadrupeds in 3ds Max. In this series of lessons we will learn how to rig quadrupeds in 3ds Max. We’ll work our way from the ground up, learning techniques for creating robust and flexible vertebrae systems, efficient and animator-friendly controls, and learn how to dynamically link and blend between spaces. We’ll also cover helpful weight painting techniques and learn how to set up and automate the triggering of corrective targets. By the end of this course, you will have the skills needed to rig your very own quadruped.

Intermediate | 2h 04m | 785 MB | Project Files 16 MB | Required Software: CINEMA 4D R13

In this set of tutorials you will learn how to automatically rig creatures with CINEMA 4D’s new Character Object. Through this set of tutorials you will learn how to use the Character Object to auto-rig creatures and how to adjust the control rig to match its exact proportions! We’ll then explore some of the features built into the Character Object that allow us to auto-weight geometry, filter what gets displayed in the scene, and take a look at a system that generates automatic animation cycles. We’ll also cover how to integrate custom systems of our own into the auto-rig, weight painting and weight mirroring techniques, as well as how to collapse the rig in order to export it for use in an older version of CINEMA 4D. In the end, you will learn how the Character Object can be used to make your rigging workflow far more efficient!

PosterDigital-Tutors – Reusing Control Rigs in Maya

Intermediate | 3h 40m | 1.76 GB | Project Files 49 MB | Required Software: Autodesk Maya 2012

In this Maya tutorial, you will learn techniques for reusing control rigs in Maya to work more efficiently. Throughout the tutorial you will learn techniques for re-purposing rigs to save time in your character setup pipeline. We’ll start by merging a completed rig into our character’s scene. At that point, we will start modifying the rig to match the proportions of our character. Moving on from there, we will then add controls that are necessary to accommodate any new accessories that require controls. We’ll also learn techniques for rigging hair and belts, and use Mel scripts, to help us to cut time on repetitive tasks. By the end of this tutorial, you’ll learn how to reuse your own rigged assets, to, in the end, be more productive to your team.

Digital-Tutors – Enhancing Rigs with Maya Muscle[/center]
Intermediate | 3h 22m | 1.68 GB | Project Files 58 MB | Required Software: Autodesk Maya 2012

In this Maya tutorial, you will be equipped with the knowledge you need to incorporate Maya Muscle into your own rigging pipeline. Over the series of tutorials, we will use Maya’s very robust and intuitive muscle system improve the overall realism of an animated character. We will start with an animated rig that has some major deformation problems that will need to be addressed. From there, we will start to strategically build an efficient muscle rig that will preserve volume in critical areas that are prone to collapse, like the shoulders and forearms. We’ll learn how to customize Maya muscle shapes and follow-through effects to create the illusion of weight and realism! We’ll also cover integrating blend shapes with Maya Muscle and file referencing to work smarter, not harder. By the end of this tutorial, you will be equipped with the knowledge you need to incorporate Maya Muscle into your own rigging pipeline.
