Digital-Tutors – Creative Development: HDRI Image Creation in Photoshop and Maya with Garry Lewis
Advanced | 2h 32m | Released on 9/1/2011 | 1.49 GB | Project Files 909 MB | Required Software: Photoshop CS5, HDR Shop, Maya 2012

In this collection of videos we will learn how I create HDRI images for lighting.

This video collection will walk you through creating your own high dynamic range images. And not only just getting an HDRI we look at what makes an HDRI more realistic, stylized, and more interesting for your lighting. We begin with the equipment necessary to create an HDRI image. We cover two methods of gathering the initial images. First the chrome probe ball used in gardens everywhere. Next the fish eye lens which can gather 360 degrees of your view. After you create several HDR’s you’ll be matching the lighting in your video footage or just enhancing your studio lighting in no time.

Fantasy Landscape
3D Exterior Set Design – Fantasy Landscape | eLearning | 1.12 GB
Creating a Fantasy Landscape is a tutorial that contains a lot of NURBS modeling so you will learn how to work with isoparms, hulls, CV’s, lofting surfaces and Maya’s curve tools. This is a fast way to generate a lot of geometry in a scene which is then converted to polygons for adding details and refining the models.

Length: 6 Hours 56 Minutes
Level: Beginner
Software: Maya – Photoshop
Format: DiVX

We’ll create mountain terrain, windmills, mushroom shaped houses, clouds and rope bridges, all these techniques are important when modeling fantasy or realistic exteriors in Maya. You’ll see how the sculpt geometry tool can be used to sculpt ground based terrain and work with the split poly tool to cut out irregular shapes in landscape modeling.

The project continues with texturing where you’ll lay out UV’s for the environment and you’ll get some good tips and tricks on how to fix some of the common problems that might occur during the UV mapping process. We’ll then bring it into Photoshop for texture painting rock, wood and many other things during which you’ll get some good practice at using smudge tools and blending colors. As well we’ll create bump maps using procedural textures and to get some color variation in our final scene we will work with ramp textures.

Finally we’ll create a complete sky environment with clouds and look at how to add your own custom background images in Maya and render with depth of field to add another dimension to our final result. This environment can further be used to place your own animated characters in.

After Effects
The After Effects Illusionist: All the Effects in One Complete Guide
English | DVD | .aep | .pdf | .mov | 722.69 MB

Review
“…grouped into chapters that follow the same listings as the sequence the effects appear in the plug-in menu…. the book is well written and copiously populated with full colour images illustrating the concepts… a disc is provided which is packed with project files that relate to the examples in the book and allow you to jump straight to the learning without having to set up each new example to match the lesson.

Also included on the disc are three more short chapters designed to give you a mental jump start when you are running low on ideas. Suggestions about combining effects to achieve new results can often fire a spark in your mind that can lead to a new solution for a problem you are stuck on.

This book is going to remain on my desk for the foreseeable future, ready whenever i need a quick fix of inspiration or just to refresh myself about a specific effect.
If you use Adobe After Effects, then the chances are you will find something useful, informative and inspiring in this book. Highly recommended.”

Creative Development: 3D for Illustration in Maya and Photoshop with Pat Imrie
Advanced | 4h 54m | Released on 9/1/2011 | 1.88 GB | Project Files 272 MB | Required Software: Maya 2011, Photoshop CS5

In this course, we’ll learn how to create a 3D illustration for use on a magazine cover.

Over the course of these videos we will learn how to efficiently model by only modeling what we need and how to reuse basic base meshes as starting points. Then we will look at how to efficiently UV map, looking at techniques to quickly produce distortion free UVs. Then using Ambient Occlusion bakes as starting points for our textures we will look at a efficient and repeatable texturing process. We will then look at how to pose our characters, setup shaders to replicate advanced effects such as refraction and sub-surface scattering, before setting up render passes and layers for compositing. Finally we will bring it all together in Photoshop using our layers to composite and adjust our image before looking at some final techniques to complete our 3D Illustration.
