In this series of tutorials we will learn how to create a realistic character from scratch, covering modeling and texture creation.

Throughout will go over concept selection, and blocking in of forms using ZBrush 4R6’s powerful suite of tools, we will also be jumping into Maya for base mesh creation for some of more complex pieces. I’ll discuss different sculpting techniques giving you a good overview on different problem areas such as leather or skin pores. We’ll then discuss how to go about texturing and retopologizing the high-resolution models in TopoGun and Photoshop. We’ll be using UV layout for the fast and easy UV creation. Normals and and other maps will be generated using TopoGun, XNormal, and a versatile map creation program.

Over the course of the tutorial we will cover general anatomy, as well as introducing a DynaMesh workflow and topology geared towards animation. We will go over utilizing Polypaint to hand paint our base textures, which will later be enhanced in Photoshop and dDo.The tutorial will end with a semi-low resolution character with normal maps and diffuse geared towards a realtime game workflow. Tips learned here can be applied to any realistic or stylized character.

Dominic Qwek covers how to create realistic skin for his creature designs using ZBrush, Keyshot and Photoshop. He starts off by using ZBrush to sculpt realistic skin details such as wrinkles, moles and warts. Dominic then uses polypaint in ZBrush to texture skin tones where he adopts a layered approach for realistic results. Using the GoZ plugin, he imports the polypainted model into Keyshot where he starts lighting and shading. Keyshot’s translucent shader is explained, as well as its HDR lighting features, for photo-realistic and interactive rendering. Finally, Dominic shares his post-processing workflow in Photoshop to achieve the final image.

In this series of Maya tutorials we will learn about the techniques of creating the impact of bullets on a concrete wall and metallic door. We are going to extract and go over the elements of bullet impacts step-by-step.

In this tutorial we will go over the basic workflows of Matchmoving in MatchMover and PFTrack.

Throughout this training we will learn how to approach 2D shots and convert them into 3D scenes with an animated camera that animates in the same manner as the physical camera used initially.

We will learn how to identify certain types of shots, such as a nodal pan shot and a zoom shot. Finally, we will learn how to build proxy geometry and prepare a 3D scene for the other artists in the production pipeline.

In this volume of the Quick Start to Modeling in Maya, we’ll build on the concepts covered in
previous volumes.

We’ll start by blocking in the shells for our robotic drone asset and shaping it to our liking. We’ll then use polygon modeling tools to create separate, fitted panels and mechanical detail. We’ll build
up our model methodically, adding structural pieces that make sense and make the model visually interesting. We’ll combine polygon and NURBS geometry to create different pieces and deformers will
help us shape parts of the drone. We’ll talk about working efficiently as we model, only building what we need and then duplicating the results.

In the end we’ll have a robotic drone and you’ll be ready to take your knowledge into the next volume. These courses are designed to be taken in sequence so we really encourage you to start with
Volume 1-3 before continuing with this section. We also encourage you to take advantage of the assignments that follow each volume. These assignments will allow you to take what you’ve learned and
apply those tools and techniques to your own projects.

Whether you are watching a CG movie or playing a video game, when it comes to characters, one of the
first things we notice is their eyes. We read emotions and character intent through the eyes and
ultimately evaluate the characters effectiveness beginning with this important feature. Needless to
say, understanding how to paint believable eyes for a texture artist is very important.

In this tutorial, we will focus on painting a realistic human eye by splitting it into three critical
areas. We will methodically move from painting the iris to the pupil and finally the sclera of the
eye. Along the way we will really flex MARI 2.0?s new layer based workflow with a heavy emphasis on
masks, mask stacks and adjustment stacks. To wrap this course up we will learn how to create a subtle
bump map and finally how to export our maps out of MARI. By the end of this training, you will have a
good understanding of how to break down and paint textures for a realistic human eye.

In this series of lessons, you’ll learn how to create professional detail drawings in Revit.
