  2. alright, from the other thread, here’s how you do it:
    create a users/Shared/Shave dir, and put the key.txt there, and it will work.

  6. This is a outstanding blog, I found your web page looking around aol for a related subject matter and arrived to this. I couldnt find to much alternative material on this summary, so it was nice to locate this one. I will certainly be back to look at some other articles that you have another time.

  7. I do not understand when i try to load the plugin there is no pop up. and the “liscence” thats suppose to be in the script editor is 3 numbers too long for it to be right. I am working on a pc win7

    • @VEXX_81

      The serial in the Script editor is the one you need, only enter the first 11 digits into the keygen. Also, make sure the keygen is in the C: and make sure that there is not an old key.dat file already there. If there is an old key file, delete it. Then run the keygen, enter the serial number from the script editor, then open the plugin manager and check loaded again. This should make it work.

      This method worked for me in Windows 7 with the 2009 64bit version. The only problem is, when I reset I have to go through the process all over again (which can be quite annoying). I am still trying to discover a solution to that, if anyone figures it out please post a reply.

  8. Noone replied to VexX_81 but I also am wondering about it working for 2011. I’ve been trying it but it seems to not be able to find the shaveNode.mll and gives this error:

    // Error: Unable to dynamically load : C:/Program Files/JoeAlter/shaveHaircut/maya2010/plug-ins/shaveNode.mll
    The specified procedure could not be found.

    I’ve tried manually loading it and changing that folder name to maya2011 in case that worked but no dice. Also tried putting it in the Maya “plug-ins” folder but again, didn’t work. Can anyone think of any workarounds or is it simply not compatible with 2011?

    • Thanks for paying attention HercFern. I tried manually doing it and failed too. My computer power supply actually died this week, but I’m hoping that by the time the company sends me a new one, someone would have worked this out for 2011. I kind of find it ridiculous that autodesk has made so much improvement with nparticles and ncloth, but still has a really mediocre hair system, which is one of the most common problems between 3d artist. Worst case scenario, I might try creating the hair from geometry, using alpha channels for strands, and turning the geometry into cloth so it still has a flowing feel, but i know once i do all of that, someone will crack the damn program and i’ll punch myself in the nuts. :/

  9. I cannot get this to work on Windows 7, I tried to install the Maya 2009 version 64bit but it simply gives me the error message // Error: initializePlugin function failed (shaveNode). No window opened with a serial number.

    I tried opening the script editor and I did get a serial number but when I enter the first 11 digits into the keyen, as the instructions indicate, nothing happens. The keygen simply closes and Shave does not work.

    I previously installed this on my old PC with windows Xp and did not have any problems, if anyone is able to get this to work on Windows 7 I would greatly appreciate some advice.

    • I managed to get it working by putting the keygen into the c:drive, opening it as an administrator and entering the key from the script editor but restarting still deactivates it (as others have mentioned). Does anyone know a solution for this problem?

      • Mac and Windows Users.
        For those of you using windows vista or newer versions to run the keygen. right click on notepad, wordpad and command prompt shortcuts and assign them as administrators. when you run the keygen it should then write Key.txt to c drive.
        Newer versions of windows come with strict security against trojans and virus’, which is why you won’t automatically beable to write file to c:. I got it working a couple of days ago.

  10. Hello,
