Still needs and advanced rendering engine, they should talk to or work with developer of Arnold, they are brilliant programmers why not implement a version of V-Ray? that would knock out realtime rendering as well. Cinema 4Ds version of Vray was developed by a couple of plugin developers that delved into the sdk. if not implement render-man technologies after all the specification is open source,

Let me guess Spanx…You use Maya or 3D Max, you’d better read up on Lightwave, it’s a better plug in free program “out of the box” then most. Max and Maya you need to buy VRay to make nice renders…Lightwave does it right out of the box, No plugins!
Lightwave has never need a 3rd party renderer plugin. The internal render engine is very good and powerful. Have you seen the Stasys pictures? The corridor pics are awesome. For example:
