So, I’m also waiting for a crack (the crack from the 1.8 allow to run the application but make it crash as soon as the application is loaded).

No, that will not work. It runs on a lic basis, if it does not find the lic it will not run. it will ask if you want to start the lic manager.
Sorry you’ll have to wait. the only trials you can get from soft are for xsi.

Doesn’t it make you wonder that after such a long time – this very hard to find software is now available? Makes me think that Autodesk (who now own Softimage) have done this on purpose so they get major feedback from users like us?

Agreed, that’s what I’ve been thinking too. Now that Autodollars own it perhaps they’re trying to get it out there into the artist’s hands so that the artist’s employers will buy it. Sort of like free publicity.

I have 1.9 running and following the short movie tut. Am using a Daz character head. When selecting parts, I select face surface and the whole thing disappears…eyes, teeth, everything gone. I re-did model to match the FR examples but it still goes away. Anyone gotten any farther along than me?

It goes away??? Does any one know what the graphics card requirements are for this thing? I’m gussing that it needs a powerful card to work. I’m using a 8800 Ultra and all looks good.
I don’t think it’s a card problem. It has something to do with the models. I can use their’s and the parts get selected fine like in the video. I exported one of their models as an obj and duplicated the object setup with the Daz model. But it still didn’t work. I am not much of a character modeler so I need to find some prebuilts that will work with FR.
Should XSI be installed beside FR, or is FR the only package needed for all my character modeling and animation needs? I’m asking because FR looks exactly like XSI (with the exception of the extra tool panel).
Since i use both, i can’t really say. all my systems have them both installrf.

The fix seems to throw up an Internet Explorer Error when picking the face items….So I copied the items from C:\Softimage\Face_Robot_1.9_QFE4\Addons\FaceRobot\Application\views to a temp directory and then copied the same items from C:\Softimage\Face_Robot_1.8\Addons\FaceRobot\Application\views and overwrote the items in C:\Softimage\Face_Robot_1.9_QFE4\Addons\FaceRobot\Application\views. Seems to have cured the issue…

replacing files in view folder with files from views folder from 1.8 does not work…application is frozen.

I might be speaking to soon but is the Maya export in here. I cant find it. Even in the plug-in manager. Its xsi 6 export on crosswalk, Just wondering if anyone has done a successful export to Maya with the default faces.

as far as i’m concern… we’ll might have to wait for a new version of crosswork to come out. i installed crosswork 3.1 (the newest from softimage site) on my system. it can only detect maya 2008 but not 2009.
Great little addon (and that is what it is an XSI addon). After playing with it, I know why it was kept under ropes – to hide the fact a 90k price tag is a royal ripoff, I guess Zbrush should have been 400k and Maya fluids 90k. Avid lost big by this, facerobot as part of XSI Advanced and they would have competed enough to get more money from from auto. Morons.
Autodesk just had a large financial loss. They laid off 25 percent of their work force last month. My guess is someone from XSI who got fired last month decided to put this out there for revenge, or to share.
Well they deservere it, the amount of money autodesk charge for their products is insane. yo
i’m actually one of those people who will by software if its priced at a decent rate, sadly so many people are using pirated software its almost impossible to stay competitive if you do things properly.
They pirate it because the companies have made it over priced in the first place and their greed has given birth to a viscious cycle.
Autocad is or was the cash cow for Autodesk. Just speculating here but with the global recession construction has stopped on housing and commercial projects….less building less need for architects and autocad. Same thing for their other product development related softs. Companies are cutting back on R&D so less new products no need for image design etc.
From what I hear media and animation is a pretty small market…mainly because the main clients are the studios who can afford their expensive stuff.
Btw, does anyone know how to export correctly to 3ds Max? I used File/Crosswalk/Export to Max. I can import the mesh and the animation but everything is distorted.

i installed FaceRobot and replaced FR.exe with the fix. i chose ‘ask me later’ when windows asked me whether to ‘block’ or ‘unblock’ the application.
it just never finish initialising.
i just tried both ‘block’ and ‘unblock’ options but no exciting result :(
Uninstall the program using this:

It will totally clean out all the little junk usually left behind. Then re-install. Be sure to click ‘unblock’, only click it once. Once you screw it up it has to be reinstalled.

the link you provided doesn’t work, so i found a copy of youruninstaller myself. it couldn’t uninstall FaceRobot because it couldn’t find some files. i uninstalled in control panel and used youruninstaller to do clean up.
i clicked ‘unblock’ the first time i was asked, still no luck. did it just worked for you straight away?

best way to get stuff over into 3dsmax is to bake out the mesh as an mdd pointcache file. import your model into max as an obj, then apply the pointcache mod and load the file from FR.
crosswalk is extremley unstable. this release of FR is a fixed exe file and isnt as stable as the som license system. it crashes every 5-10 mins, no matter what system you are running.

yup. its a mesh modifier – not an import option.
import your head from faceroot/xsi in its starting postion/state as an obj.
apply a point cache modifier from the modiifier list for the object.
navigate to where you saved out the animation data/deforamtion from FR as an MDD file. and voila.
okay Matt, i try it but in the point oven modifier,when i clic on load, there is no mdd import format. only : xml, pc2, pts

the FR.exe patch does not seem to be stable, it freezes up every 10mins or so on Vista x64/x86 SP1.
Hi Guys, I have been looking through the 1.9 program and noticed that the crosswalk applliction is ver2.6 there is a new version out there which is 3.11. when i looked inside C:\Softimage\Crosswalk2.6\Plugins in the Maya converter it only supports upto Maya 2008! No support for Maya 2009 i think?, so this is most likely reason i cant get it to run in Maya 2009 anyone else have the same problem?

Crosswalk is a free plugin you can just download at xsi site. Better yet it is an auto installer. It will look for all the applictions on your computer such as Max, Maya, Face Robot, and XSI and auto install the latest version into that program. You also have the option to custom install and pick the application you want to use crosswalk with and it will auto install to those…..Not complicated at all .

sorry, forgot to mention you need the POINTOVEN plugin for max to be able to read the MDD format. most apps have this built in – but of course, max does not. you can get it at a modesnt price from the offical place here

though this is once seat license, so only once machine would be able to read the MDD file. a way around this would be to add the PC2 pointcache ontop of the pointoven modifier and rebake the verts out.
then you can load the PC2 data when/whereever.
ive never found a cracked release of pointoven. but its a really handy/powerful plug

Not having the same luck. I did a dual boot with windows vista to use FR. FR is running on Vista 64x and FR will still freeze up it does not crash just freezes my computer for no good reason.
Pick up object? What do yo mean? Look for a menu thats on the right then you see object, polygon etc ,, click object? or is that now what you want?

What I mean is that I cannot see the “Pick objects” button in the right hand side of the UI. There are “Library”, “Tools” menu but no “Type” or the mentioned button as the “scan” button.

Tom and Harry ..Can you see the Select / Transform Constrain on the right?
If you can then look for a greyish rouned rectangle shape between the transform controls. Its hard to see its like an unnamed tab.. Click that and it should expand… Post a screen shot of your screen if your still ahving problems..

Ff you can not see the Select / Transform / Constrain menus on the right then maybe you have the screen fully open, Look to the far right like where the scroll bar would be in a browser.. Then look for the greyish rouned rectangles shapes I mentioned (around the center of the screen on the right) Like center of a scroll bar sort of.. Click to Expand… Failing that post a screen shot and I ‘ll see if I can help..
FR is running on WinXP 32 (on core2 quad, 2GB ram) and freeze up every 5-10 minutes it does not crash just freezes my computer.
I think same situation as Mark’s and Cheetah.
Warning: Be sure to scan all the downloaded files with your Antivirus and if there is an executable or installer file, make sure to have your antivirus active and open in the background while installing or running the app. Some of the materials posted here are downloaded from CGPeers, So they could potentially have something injected in them.

This only for faces. You need Softimage Hand Job and Dick Bot with the addon Ball Breaker for that…

though this is once seat license, so only once machine would be able to read the MDD file. a way around this would be to add the PC2 pointcache ontop of the pointoven modifier and rebake the verts out.
then you can load the PC2 data when/whereever.
ive never found a cracked release of pointoven. but its a really handy/powerful plug

Great, where is the “Pick up object” object please ?
Not having the same luck. I did a dual boot with windows vista to use FR. FR is running on Vista 64x and FR will still freeze up it does not crash just freezes my computer for no good reason.
Pick up object? What do yo mean? Look for a menu thats on the right then you see object, polygon etc ,, click object? or is that now what you want?

What I mean is that I cannot see the “Pick objects” button in the right hand side of the UI. There are “Library”, “Tools” menu but no “Type” or the mentioned button as the “scan” button.
What should I do to make it displayed ?

Tom and Harry ..Can you see the Select / Transform Constrain on the right?
If you can then look for a greyish rouned rectangle shape between the transform controls. Its hard to see its like an unnamed tab.. Click that and it should expand… Post a screen shot of your screen if your still ahving problems..

Ff you can not see the Select / Transform / Constrain menus on the right then maybe you have the screen fully open, Look to the far right like where the scroll bar would be in a browser.. Then look for the greyish rouned rectangles shapes I mentioned (around the center of the screen on the right) Like center of a scroll bar sort of.. Click to Expand… Failing that post a screen shot and I ‘ll see if I can help..
FR is running on WinXP 32 (on core2 quad, 2GB ram) and freeze up every 5-10 minutes it does not crash just freezes my computer.
I think same situation as Mark’s and Cheetah.
Any ideas how to fix it?
