Welcome to Volume 3 of the Quick Start to Modeling in MODO, a series of specially constructed courses meant to
be followed in sequence and interspersed with valuable exercises to reinforce learned concepts.
In volume 3 of the Quick Start to Modeling in MODO we’ll build on the concepts covered in volumes 1 and 2.
We’ll start by using a primitive shape to build a fuel tank for a flame thrower or spray weapon.
We’ll then use the Pen Tool to draw out a custom base shape around that tank. We’ll learn to add thickness to
drawn shapes and to create clean quad geometry. We’ll extract polygons to create additional objects and use
the Tube tool to build a connected fuel hose. We’ll put all of the tools we’ve learned to this point into
practice to build our weapon before cleaning up our scene, naming our objects, and grouping things together.
These courses are designed to be taken in sequence so we really encourage you to start with Volume 1 and
Volume 2 before continuing with this section. We also encourage you to take advantage of the assignments that
follow each volume. These assignments will allow you to take what you’ve learned and apply those tools and
techniques to your own projects.
