I’m explaining this for new users since I got questions lately: The difference between Houdini FX and Houdini Indie?
FX includes farm nodes. Unless you’re planning to run a render farm, you probably don’t need it.
— Indie comes with two render nodes, which is enough for your home rig!
Both versions give you full access to all Mantra, Karma and the tools, including the HDK.
However, if you choose the FX version, it prevents you from using Indie HDAs.
Lastly, when you share a .hip file people will know you’re not paying $3195/year license fee!!
(FX project files are saved as .hip, while Indie project files are saved as .hiplc. Indie can open FX files without any issues. However, if you open a .hiplc file
in FX, Houdini will run in Indie mode. If you modify and save the project, it will remain a .hiplc file.)

This iteration fails on launch, which was much the same for the 21.0.440 release a couple weeks back.
–rather confusing as the 20.5.654 INDIE version has been working perfectly…
Issue with curves nodes, where they bugged completly from a .dll or a python error code, seems like it is coming from the desktop setup colors
When I launch it from the hindie exe it says “Couldn’t open file: FUSE_ColorOptions.ui This probably means that your environment is not set up properly. If you have more than one version of Houdini installed make sure that your system environment does not contain any Houdini environment variables (such as HFS, HH).” I never messed with any variables of any version previously used, I only have the 21.440 on my computer, but it doesn’t want to render anymore for some reason so I’m trying to get that one.
