Destruction FX is one of Houdini’s strongest features, but it’s easy to get stuck when art directing simulations. Often times we can’t rely on simple collisions to achieve the look that we are after.
This is where we must create the forces from scratch, by combining different growth solvers with custom velocities.
Another crucial component is fracturing the geometry in a very specific and art direct-able manner, which we cover extensively in the course.

Art Direct Destruction
Take complete control of your RBD simulation with custom solvers and attributes. Achieve the exact motion and interaction you envision for your shattering crystal.
Look Development
Craft a stunning custom crystal material in Redshift and blend it seamlessly with the original stone material. Use a blend between refraction and custom reflections to add details.
Compositing Magic
Separate layers using AOVs, create a dedicated glowing layer for the crystal’s interior, and add depth-of-field effects. Learn best practices for compositing and solve common challenges.
