What you will learn
In this set of MODO animation tutorials we will learn the intuitive and fun animation tools of MODO. We’ll begin by exploring the animation interface followed by learning about animation preferences and settings and how to create key frames. In addition, we’ll learn how animations can be modified from MODO’s Timeline, Graph Editor, and Dope Sheet. Along the way we’ll also learn about how to edit animations on a motion path, animate a camera to follow a path, and how to save poses and actions for our animations. By the end, you’ll be equipped with an understanding of some really useful tools and features you’ll need to animate inside of MODO.

MODO is a great all-around 3D application, offering tools over a wide range of disciplines. One of
those disciplines is texture painting and MODO has a robust set of texture tools to enable us to
finish the look of our models right inside the application, making for a smooth, efficient, and
flexible workflow.

In this MODO tutorial we’ll use a simple creature model from the sculpting course to learn the
basics of painting textures in MODO. We’ll talk about setting up materials and working with basic
channels. We’ll learn to create new textures and use MODO’s painting tools to create a custom
look. We’ll learn to use detail from photographs with Image Ink and learn to blend multiple
texture layers together in the Shader Tree to get the effect we want. We’ll also learn to add
procedural layers for different effects and learn to bake all of our different texture maps down
into single efficient images.

Throughout the tutorial we’ll cover some of the most common painting tools, brush tips and nozzle
settings that will allow us to detail our creature very quickly. In the end, you’ll have the
knowledge you need to begin painting your own models in MODO.

In this MODO tutorial we will learn about modeling techniques in MODO 701 and then take our model and make a quality render from it.Throughout the training we will learn different techniques on how to bring a physical object into the 3D application. We will start with some basic techniques, then learn about reference images and how to take them. Then we will proceed to model the vacuum cleaner. Once we have a finished the model we will add shaders in MODO and make a beauty render using the MODO renderer.By the end of this tutorial you should have a decent idea of how to go about modeling a real life hard surface object, and you will have learned some new things about MODO in the process.

In this MODO tutorial we’ll use a project-based approach as we cover the basics of modeling, look at commonly used
tools, and talk about some time-saving tips and techniques in MODO.

We’ll begin by looking at polygon and subdivision geometry and how MODO works with that geometry. We?ll take a look
at a variety of modeling tools you can use in your daily work. We’ll split edges with Loop Slice and Add Loop. We’ll
learn to Bevel and Extrude. And we’ll learn to use Action Centers and Falloffs to change how our tools affect the
geometry. We’ll also talk about subdivision surfaces and how they can be used to create very smooth models with edges
that have been hardened through edge weighting or actual geometry.

We won’t be covering all of MODO’s many modeling tools, but rather focus on the tools that you’re going to find most
useful as you begin the modeling process. Once you have a better understanding of how these tools work together,
you?ll be able to create your own modeling solutions and really come up with a workflow that?s comfortable to you.
With that, let?s get started by taking a look at polygons.

In this series of MODO tutorials, we are going to go through the process of building and detailing a fantasy war hammer using MODO.

When building 3D assets, the ability of your computer to manipulate those objects is limited, especially when dealing with very high resolution meshes. Because of this, we use 2D images, like normal maps, to simulate the high resolution detail in a way that we can more easily use. We’ll begin by building the base geometry for our weapon in MODO. Once the base geometry is modeled, we will use MODO’s sculpting tools to created some high-resolution detail.

Then we will talk about creating the low resolution mesh along with its UV layout. To finish up, we will generate maps for the color and specularity before viewing our game weapon in Marmoset Toolbag.

When finished, you will have a better understanding of the workflow involved in building and sculpting high resolution props and set pieces with MODO and creating useable assets from them.
