Digital Tutors ? Texture Projection Techniques in MARI | project files | .flv | 706Mb
Genre: eLearning
In this series of lessons, we will be exploring many of the tools and features of MARI that will allow you to texture your models faster and with more precision.

This course will begin by discussing the basic workflow of projecting texture detail onto your geometry within MARI as well as important features and settings that you will want to be aware of at an early stage of your texturing process.

From there, we will move into important topics such as mirroring painted details from one side of your geometry to the other, utilizing a multi-layered approach when creating our textures in MARI, looking at methods for seamlessly blending our textures together, as well as many additional tips, tricks, and techniques that you will be able to use within your own MARI projects.

Digital-Tutors : Establishing a Solid Foundation in MARI

Creating textures for our models can sometimes be difficult, but it is often so important for bringing those models to life within our projects. Born out of necessity within the film industry, MARI is a terrific solution for painting textures and will allow us to work with large objects with multiple texture maps seamlessly.
In this series of lessons we will take you through the many facets of MARI so you start creating textures for your own models right away. We will begin by talking about how to work with MARI projects. We will get accustomed to the MARI interface and let you know how you can customize it to fit your own needs. From there, we will talk about vital topics like working with the paint buffer and how MARI works with multiple uv patches. We will explore the tools you can use to paint on your models, including customizing brushes and tool properties. We will cover the topic of projection painting and look at some of the projection settings that will allow you to get better results. We will also look at cloning and painting through existing photographic images to help you create great texture maps. We will use photographic images to paint through, adding realistic detail to the model very quickly. We will explore channels and shaders, and working with multiple objects, using filters to modify textures, and a lot more. In the end, you will be able start using MARI to paint great textures for your own models. If you are just starting out and maybe you’re fairly new to 3D. You can also go through The Beginner Guide to MARI, which will give you a quick overview of the functionality of MARI and some of the things to expect when using it.

Ebook | Video tutorials | Project files | 1280 x 720 | 1 hr.58 min | 735.73 MB
Genre: Elearning
The Wow Factor is an eBook that teaches you how to create jaw dropping effects within the compositor! The lessons and tutorials taught inside, are a combined total of everything that I?ve learnt through his 7 years of using Blender.
This time round Andrew has produced an EBook in PDF format that covers various techniques of creating special effects in Blender 2.5’s using the Compositor.
The Ebook is organised in to a series of bite sized sections, each covering a different special effect, achieved using the Compositor.

Topics Covered Listing:
– Soft Glow
– Bright Glow
– Anamorphic Flare
– Bloom
– Lens Flare
– Glare Ghosting
– Reflecting Glare
– Glare Burnout
– Depth of Field
– Chromatic Aberration
– Vignetting
– Motion Blur
– Lens Distortion
– Dirty Lens
– Color Grading
– Image Sharpening

Each process is described in a step by step, numbered manner, with numerous screen shots showing the various stages of Compositing, showing the progressive results of the different Compositing Nodes. Each different topic is also assigned a completion time indicating how long it should take the reader to carry out the task. I am not sure of the point of timing each process, but some users may find it useful.

Most of the topics are covered with minimal reading involved, which to be honest when dealing with the Compositor is a good thing. The pictures within the EBook are very clear and Andrew takes enough time to explain most of the important node features used to achieve the particular effects he is after. I would have liked a more detailed description of some features used by certain nodes, but for the purposes of getting certain effects, they were described adequately.

For the amount of information and number of pages within the EBook, some could argue that the price is a little high and while it certainly isn’t a cheep EBook, it probably justifies the price. Because it covers Blender 2.5’s way of doing things (one of a very few that do) and covers special effects using Blender’s Node editor, so it is worth the price for people who want to get up and running with Blender 2.5’s Node Editor as quickly as possible and have a set of special effects technique available to them after having read the EBook. As an added bonus Andrew mentions that the book will be updated as things change in Blender 2.5’s Compositor up to year 2012, so looking at it from that point of view, the price is not quiet as high as it seems.

The Beginning and Intermediate Blender users will, I think, get the most benefit out of this material rather than an advanced Blender user, as it is likely that someone with extensive knowledge will already know the Compositor tricks to produce the demonstrated special effects.

Overall an excellent resource for special effects and Blender 2.5 Compositor functionality.

Just goes to show that there are some good things coming out of Australia, get this EBook, it’s more useful than Kylie Minogue!

Digital Tutors – Creature Texturing in MARI

Creating highly detailed textures for our characters can often be a difficult task. MARI gives us a lot of flexibility in creating those textures and allows us to break down our models into a large number of high resolution textures that we can paint on simultaneously. In this series of lessons we will go through the process of using MARI to create textures for high resolution creatures. We will begin by setting up our MARI project, with our geometry and texture channels, and setting up the workspace.
From there, we will block in a color base on the pieces of our model. We will look at the different effects we can get when using different brushes. We will use photographic images to paint through, adding realistic detail to the model very quickly. We will also look at several ways that we can use masking to aid in texturing, including edge masking and using existing channels as masks. Finally, we will look at how to adjust entire channels or selected uv patches based on a number of different filters. In the end, you will not only have textured a complete project, but you will have the tools you need to create high resolution textures on your own models. If you are just starting out and are completely new to MARI, please check out the Beginner Guide to MARI as well as the Introduction to MARI to get a good grip on all of the functionality available in this powerful application.

mocha Pro is the newest in Imagineer System’s mocha family and unites the best features from Mokey and Monet with the familiar mocha interface.? Get working fast within a day with Curious Turtle’s new training course – Beyond Tracking.? Like mocha Pro itself, this course builds on the Imagineer’s industry-leading planar tracking software.? Leverage those skills to speed up often arduous VFX and compositing jobs directly within mocha Pro, such as object removal, product replacements and even stabilizing a shot without having to lose quality by upscaling.

The tutorials go in-depth, not just into the interface or features, but how you analyse your shots before you even start, to get the best results.? Even with difficult to track footage that would be impossible to track with standard point trackers.? Tracking is fundamental to VFX work, but even the best tracking data is worthless if you can’t use it correctly.
