my first impression… look at the dvd cover a car and an ugly woman. whos that? and why put her there? looks like the artist’s girlfriend its very unprofessional and lame and the 3d car its very noticeable the the final render of the car too much crease on the front. you can really tell if the artist is an amateur. he probably learn his tutorial from somewhere and makes his own tut and sells it online
I would surely thank John for his effort but I went to the web site, watched the gallery and images, the cars are not very realistic more for illustration purposes or not very his res games, surfaces are not very good, nor are the details. The tutorials’ end results are a very important factor in deciding I pick to learn, if I can master 60% of the tutorial and get to 60% of the end result I am happy but if the end result is not what I like then why learning. Maybe the animation and rigging are good, I did not see them, modeling and rendering here are not very good.
Unless you are a very early starter, I would not recommend it.

Oh god , I remember this guy on CgTalk! Look at the promo video. What are you going to learn from this? Sorry to be blunt but the models are very average. The proportions are bad – ( thickness of tire , size of wheel compared to body , size of hub compared to wheel ) . And its clear he knows nothing about cars or how they work (or even physics for that matter) – A camaro , rear wheel drive , doing a burnout with all four wheels and staying perfectly in place . As a petrol head this video makes my sad :(
Not only that but the guy has a major attitude problem .

LMAO! This thing is so funny to listen to, this guy surprises himself while teaching haha, I am mostly trying to see if he teaches anything good about rigging, modeling wise its garbage lol.
for starters,
there’s no GI in the scene or layered shaders network.
needs grunge maps to break up the surface reflections and specularity
main components of the animation are not registering correct in overall movements.
animation is too slow on transforming parts.
objects appear to be floating in space.
motions blur seems to be made with a vector pass. (RSMB) plugin.
proportions of the vehicle are incorrect.
motion capture on rig is too fast and needs corrective keys applied.
robot subject appears to be doing some kind of ethnic dance?.. hhmm will do some research.

I didnt even want the tutorial. I just saw the black woman on the cover and knew that someone would bring up race, and as i guessed……Some body had to say something. If the tutorials is bad or not, just the fact that you are black will cause others to hate on you for that simple fact alone. I bet if you left your picture off of the cover, and changed the woman to a white woman, you wouldnt get as much hate as your getting. It sucks that you cant be yourself, but that’s just the way the world works right now. You got to make it to the top, before you can do any of that. Thats why im waiting until after i get hired at the studio to show my blackness like, wear an afro to work, drink 40’oz beer for lunch, dribble a basketball indoors, try to sell weed to my co-workers , Praise Obama, carjack the technical director after work, etc.
