Learn how to ?trick-out? your biped! Pia Maffei, of Applied Ideas, demonstrates how to customize Biped to create custom character rigs. Use Null Helper objects with 3ds max Animation Constraints to work with Biped bones and use the Motion Mixer to work with animation tracks.

I’ve watched this video and it is very good. Although the continuity could have been better, the information that Pia imparts is useful when using biped.
The thing I particularly liked was her statement that you don’t need weight painting and that envelopes can do it all (which is a huge savings in time). And although you can still get the null helper script, I found that it’s simpler to just use bones, and for the pelvis and thigh uplinks and downlinks, I found using dummies or points work.
